Microsoft Outlook 2003 display an error message every time a link is clicked

Microsoft Outlook 2003 in Windows XP displays an error “This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator” when any link is clicked on emails.

outlook error

If this happened on your office computer, it’s easy to consult your system admin by just calling your IT tech support guys. But it could be a bit frustrating if it happened on your own personal computer, and you had no one to refer to.

Well, here’s an easy way to fix it yourself.

Click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
Click Set Program Access and Defaults
Click Custom
Under choose a default Web browser, select Internet Explorer
Click OK
Usually this happens when you install another browser and then uninstalled it (eg. Firefox perhaps?). For some reason, the error only occurs in Microsoft Outlook environment – could be that it didn’t revert back to the old settings right after the installation (or the developer just love to plant a fault and screw it to Microsoft – who knows?).
Anyway, that was quick and and hopefully it solved the issue 🙂
